Jobs & Volunteering
We have so many different volunteering roles available, we’re sure we’ll have one to suit you!
Whether you can give an hour a week or more, every little help makes a big difference. Without our volunteers we wouldn’t be able to provide our valuable services to our communities. If you’re interested in volunteering, please email us and tell us a little about yourself – we’d love to hear from you!
People gain from volunteering in different ways. Some wish to give back to their community and enjoy the feeling or pride for the work they do. Others have such a busy work-life they want to do something completely different. Some may take up volunteering to keep busy if they’re retired or widowed and enjoy making new friends as volunteering can be very sociable.
If you’re looking take a different career path, volunteering can help enhance your CV, help you develop new skills, experience, knowledge and build up your self-esteem and confidence.
If you have a busy lifestyle or job, surprisingly, volunteering can help to counteract the effects of stress, anger and anxiety, combat depression and make you feel happy! Not only will you be getting active but you’ll also feel sense of purpose whilst having a break from your normal daily routine.
Whatever reason is making you consider volunteering with us, we’d love to welcome you to our team.
What volunteering roles are there?
Historically our small charity has focused on community transport to combat loneliness and isolation. During the 2020 covid-19 pandemic we implemented new ways of helping our members and we have various projects we’ve been planning to roll out in 2020. This means we have more varied volunteering roles if driving a minibus is not for you!
Drive a minibus
Take our members on a trip to the shops, local swimming pool or open-air market. Full MiDAS training is provided.
Become a Passenger Assistant
Help members with their shopping and getting on and off the minibus. Full passenger assistance training is provided.
Drive someone to their medical appointment in your own car.
If you feel more comfortable driving your own vehicle, this may be a great opportunity for you. All volunteers’ expenses are reimbursed.
Fundraise for us!
Whether or not you have previous fundraising experience and skills or not, you could bring enthusiasm, ideas and a can-do approach and you’d make a huge difference!
Could you call a member once a week to check in on them and have a chat? If you’re unable to leave your home, this may be a great way for you to get involved. We also need volunteers to accompany members on a walk at a local park or beauty spot to help them build up their confidence getting back on their feet again and building up their strength to retain mobility.
Good Neighbour volunteer
This new project will provide support to our members in multiple ways, but we need volunteers to help us:
- Collect shopping from local businesses or prescriptions from the chemist and deliver them to our members.
- Change lightbulbs or smoke detector batteries.
- Clean internal and ground-floor windows.
- Light gardening duties.
- Collect and deliver library books from the local library.
All our volunteers are fully supported – we’re here if you have any concerns or need to talk. Training is provided where necessary and a DBS check must be completed. We understand everyone has a busy life - you can tell us what kind of role(s) you’re interested in and when you’re available. And don’t worry if something changes one week – we understand life changes. We’re here to support you in your chosen volunteering role.
I’m interested, can I give it a try first?
Yes of course! Simply email us and tell us a little about yourself, the type or role(s) you’re interested in and your contact details and we’ll be in touch.
